Sweet Tweets

Okay, so my "occasional" sweet tooth has become not so occasional and is actually more of a daily occurrence at this point in my life.  I thought I would put this problem to good use by providing feedback on which stadiums have the best sweet treats available.  I will pick and choose one treat per stadium (when applicable) and give it a thumbs up or thumbs down, or maybe I should use the terms "strike out" for the stinkers and "grand slam" for the winners.  Stay tuned.

Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington:  September 11, 2011 (Game 30 of 30)

Seeing that this was my last game of our summer adventure, I wasn't going to go without my sweet treat today.  I was thrilled to find a dessert fruit stand that served "Shiskaberrys".  These were large strawberries that were covered with chocolate and various dessert toppings.  My friend Emily and I both chose the white chocolate covered strawberries with rainbow sprinkles.  They were served on a stick that consisted of 6 strawberries.  They were heavenly!!  We both agreed that we could have split an order, but what the heck - one last splurge for the road.

This dessert gets a strong 9 out of 10 rating.  A solid home run!

Coors Field, Denver, Colorado:  September 6, 2011 (Game 29 of 30)

I had several options to choose from this evening including a Strawberry Shake from Helton's, Kettle Corn,  Cinnamon Pretzels and a Hot Fudge Sundae.  Due to the rain and cool temperature, I just couldn't find the strength to leave the comfort of my seat and umbrella.  Another failed attempt on my part.  Kudos to Kevin for keeping a perfect streak with his sausages.

Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO:  September 4, 2011 (Game 28 of 30)

Today's sweet treat comes from Sheridan's Frozen Custard Stand.  I chose the Strawberry Pina Coloda (non-alcoholic) Smoothie.  This delightful concoction consists of frozen vanilla custard, strawberries, pineapple, coconut, and ice.  Simply stated:  It's heaven in a glass!  This treat earns a 10 out of 10 rating- another Grand Slam!!

Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO:  September 2, 2011  (Game 27 of 30)

Nothing to report today.  Sorry!

Miller Park, Milwaukee, WI:  August 30, 2011 (Game 26 of 30)

Tonight I enjoyed some hot cinnamon roasted cashews for my sweet treat.  They were very good, but nothing spectacular.  A solid double!

Target Field, Minneapolis, MN:  August 26, 2011 (Game 25 of 30)

Today, I had a pre-game sweet treat consisting of chocolate fondue served with an assortment of cookies, bananas, marshmallows and warm cinnamon doughnut holes for dipping.  Kevin shared this treat with me and enjoyed every bite.  This definitely was another winner!  10 out of 10!

Wrigley Field, Chicago:  August 22, 2011 (Game 24 of 30)

My sweet treat was put on the bench tonight.  Nothing to report at this time.

US Cellular Field, Chicago:  August 21, 2011 (Game 23 of 30)

Today's game was in the hot and sunny afternoon.  I decided to combine my sweet treat with an adult thirst quencher.  I enjoyed a Strawberry Coloda that came in a souvenir White Sox glass.  This dessert drink was very satisfying and delicious AND it was pink, which is one of my favorite colors.  Another 10 out of 10 rating:  a real smash hit!

PNC Park, Pittsburgh:  August 19, 2011 (Game 22 of 30)

Tonight I enjoyed another cup of Rita's Ice at the ballpark.  It was "Cotton Candy" flavored, which was very appropriate for a baseball game.  Kevin and I shared this refreshing treat and enjoyed every last spoonful.  Rita's Ice has been consistently delicious.  This one gets a 10 out of 10 rating.  Another Grand Slam!!

National's Park, Washington D.C.  August 17, 2011  (Game 21 of 30)

No sweet treat to report today.  (I'm losing the battle of the bulge!!)

Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore:  August 14, 2011 (Game 20 of 30)

No sweet treat to report today.

Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia:  August 13, 2011 (Game 19 of 30)

No sweet treat to report today- sorry to disappoint!  Too many desserts were consumed with cousins Linda and Rich during our Stamford, CT stay.

Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY:  August 9, 2011 (Game 18 of 30)

Rained Out!!

Citi Field, Flushing, NY:  August 7, 2011 (Game 17 of 30)

No sweet treat to report today.  I'm under the weather and need to drink lots of fluids instead.

Fenway Park, Boston:  August 5, 2011 (Game 16 of 30)

No sweet treat to report today.  I enjoyed too much homemade ice cream at the Spruce Pond Creamery in Franklin. MA during the past couple of days.  YUM!!

Rogers Centre, Toronto:  July 29, 2011 (Game 15 of 30)

My stadium sweet treat regiment has been put on the DL until further notice due to the anticpated arrival of our friend, Jason Carr, from Boise, Idaho.  Jason is known to crave a sweet treat on a daily basis and I certainly don't want to be a party pooper during his visit.  (I'm taking one for the team!)

Comerica Park, Detroit:  July 28, 2011 (Game 14 of 30)

Due to our pending visit to the Astoria Bakery in Greektown after the game, I decided not to purchase a sweet treat at this stadium.  I refuse to be a glutton!!

Progressive Field, Cleveland:  July 26, 2011 (Game 13 of 30)

We had such an amazing day today that I decided to celebrate with an adult beverage for my sweet treat choice.  This stadium had a made-to-order Mojito stand and I just couldn't resist the temptation.  (I guess having front row seats made me feel that I shouldn't just settle for a plain ice cream cone tonight.)  The Mojito was made to perfection with the just the right  proportion of Rum, Mint and Sugar.  I was in seventh heaven.  (Lady T made a brief appearance to Kevin's delight!)

I give this liquid dessert a 10 out of 10 rating:  A solid Home Run to end the perfect day!

Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati:  July 24, 2011 (Game 12 of 30)

No sweet treat to report today.  (Sorry to disappoint!)  I was too full from my Skyline Chili dinner to consider having a dessert.  I would have gladly made the sacrifice to make a pig of myself if I saw something that I absolutely had to try.  There was nothing extra special in the sweet treat department at this stadium.

Turner Field, Atlanta:  July 17, 2011 (Game 11 of 30)

This stadium had lots of good food to offer.  We had club level seats that gave us an opportunity to enjoy food selections that were not available to patrons who were not seated in the club level.  Kevin and I chose to share 3 scoops of Mayfield's ice cream in an Atlanta Braves mini helmut.  We enjoyed Chocolate Chip Mint, Chocolate Cookie Dough and Strawberry.  The ice cream hit the spot and was the perfect mid-afternoon treat.

Nothing special, but very satisfying.  It scores a double- 6 out of 10.

Tropicana Field, Tampa:  July 15, 2911 (Game 10 of 30)

Nothing out of the ordinary was available at this stadium in the way of desserts.  Another swing and a miss.

Sun Life Stadium, Miami:  July 10, 2011 (Game 9 of 30)

Due to the limited sweet treat choices available, I decided to wait until dinner to order a dessert.  Kevin and I shared an order of Banana Pudding ( I needed the potassium) at the Grand Lux Cafe.  This concoction was served with chocolate dipped frozen bananas on the side.  It was a delicious dish!

I give this treat a rating of 10 out of 10 for both taste and presentation.

Rangers Ballpark at Arlington:  July 6, 2011 (Game 8 of 30)
Since we already consumed a LARGE buffet lunch just a few hours before the game, I really wasn't in the mood for any dessert.  The extreme heat has a way of diminishing one's appetite.  (Do you believe me?)  However, when we did this trip 10 years ago, I remembered having a wonderful Cherry Sno Cone.  This sounded like the perfect choice to me once again.

By the time Kevin and I found the Sno Cone stand, I must have already lost 2 pounds in sweat.  I now needed this sweet treat mainly for medicinal purposes and the Sno Cones were only $3.00!  We were served a large cup of plain shaved ice and then were directed to a syrup pumping station where we were able to serve ourselves.  This was a great idea because there were about 8 flavors to choose from.  I found the "Very Cherry" flavor and went to town with the pumping process.  I must admit that I over-cherried given the amount of ice that I had to work with.  Nonetheless, I enjoyed this childhood treat more than words can say.

I give this treat a 10 out of 10 rating.  Not so much because it was anything out of the ordinary, but mainly because of the memories it brought back to me of the carefree summer days of my youth.  I'm happy to say that I'm still a kid at heart who enjoys the simple pleasures that life has to offer!!

Minute Maid Park, Houston:  July 2, 2011 (Game 7 of 30)

Today's sweet treat has been scratched from today's line up.

Chase Field, Phoenix:  June 29, 2011 (Game 6 of 30)
Due to the extreme heat in the Phoenix area, the only sweet treat that actually looked appealing to me was the “Dream Ice”.  This was advertised as “Shave Ice”, but it was actually more like a large Sno Cone.  The ice was very coarse, and I had to keep chiseling away at it in order to eat it properly before it melted.  I chose the Pina Colada flavor.

This treat was far from spectacular, but it did give Kevin and I the chance to cool down a little bit.  It was refreshing, reasonably priced for the portion ($4.00) and much lower in calories that what I have been used to lately.  (I guess that’s why I didn’t feel guilty ordering a Chocolate Chip Cannoli with my dinner later on in the evening.  I think I’ve hit rock bottom.)

I give this treat a 5 out of 10 rating:  Good, but not great.

Angel Stadium, Anaheim:  June 27, 2011 (Game 5 of 30)

"Nothing could be finer than a Strawberry Shake from Ruby's Diner"!  Kevin twisted my arm and persuaded me to select a milkshake as my sweet treat for this evening.  Kudos, Kevin.

Another winner!  We both enjoyed sharing this shake which was a delicious combination of vanilla ice cream mixed with strawberries, whipped cream and a cherry.  (How many of you reading this are trying to guess how much weight I've gained so far?)

Ruby's Diner is unique to Southern California, so I probably won't have the chance to enjoy another shake until my next trip back.  (This may actually be a good thing!)

I give this treat another 10 out of 10 rating:  A solid home run!

Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles:  June 25, 2011 (Game 4 of 30)

Due to the dessert double-header (2 plates) that I consumed during last night's game, and the lack of appealing choices at Dodger Stadium, my sweet treat has been scratched from today's line up.  I will resume my gluttony during Monday night's game in Anaheim, California.  Stay tuned.

Petco Park, San Diego:  June 24, 2011 (Game 3 of 30)

Premier Club seating definitely has its advantages!  Kevin and I were allowed access to the Omni Premier Lounge that provides ticket holders with a private buffet, bar, and indoor seating with a panoramic view of the game.  The full buffet, including beverage and dessert, was priced at $33.00 per person.  However, for those like me, that just needed to (and wanted to) satisfy a sweet tooth, a dessert-only buffet option was offered for $9.00 per person.  This sounded like a winner to me!

I was not disappointed.  In fact, this was probably the best deal of our trip thus far.  I enjoyed a sampling (okay, maybe a little more than a traditional sampling) of Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries, Lemon Bars, Chocolate Mouse, Raspberries & Cream (served in a shot-glass), Miniature Cream Puffs, and an assortment of cake.  After my second plate, I could envision my late Grandma Anne sarcastically saying, "You know Tina, your thighs aren't getting any smaller."  At that point, I decided that I had had enough.

Kevin joined me in this dessert extravaganza and also had a Pineapple Flambe with his sampling. We returned to our seats, both feeling fat and happy.

This dessert gets a 10 out of 10 rating from me.  Another Grand Slam!

AT&T Park, San Francisco:  June 21, 2011 (Game 2 of 30)

Kevin did some research for me prior to tonight's game so that I would have a good idea as to what types of desserts would be available at this park.  San Francisco is known for it's famous Ghirardelli chocolate.  It just so happens that Ghirardelli's had two food stands located in the baseball stadium.  The Hot Fudge Sundae received high praise from those who took the time to document their experience on the Internet.  I decided to give it a try.  (My arm didn't have to be twisted too much!)

After my disappointment at the Oakland Coliseum, I did not have the highest of expectations.  I am pleased to report that my expectations were blown away.  This was by far the BEST Hot Fudge Sundae I have EVER had.  The hot fudge to ice cream proportion was perfect.  Kevin and I shared this heavenly concoction and finished every last bit.  He unfortunately spilled some hot fudge on his jeans which allowed me to get my spoon in the cup about 4 or 5 more times before he could have another taste.  (I was not the most sympathetic wife at this time.)

Ghirardelli's marketing slogan is:  "Moments of Timeless Pleasures".   They hit the nail right on the head.  I give this treat a 10 out of 10 rating- a Grand Slam!!

Oakland Coliseum:  June 19, 2011  (Game 1 of 30)

After carefully perusing the concourse several times (at least I got some exercise in the process) to seek out my sweet treat of choice, I finally decided on having a Root Beer Float.  This sounded like an ideal choice for a sunny and warm afternoon.  The picture on the menu board looked very enticing.  A large, icy mug of root beer surrounded by a large portion of firm vanilla ice cream. I thought this would be the perfect concoction to compliment the barbecue brisket sandwich that I had a couple of hours earlier.

Well, I can honestly tell you that something was seriously lost in the translation.  My dear husband, Kevin, made his way through the sweaty crowd to purchase the Root Beer Float for me.  When I saw what he was holding in his hand, I was already disappointed.  The float was not in an icy mug, it was in a flimsy Pepsi cup.  It was also about half the size of the RBF that was depicted earlier in the picture on the menu board.

Vanilla ice cream and ice cold root beer always tastes good.  I guess I just expected more for the $5.50 that I was charged.  Bottom line:  this one was a foul ball in my opinion.  I would give it a rating of 4 out of 10.

Note:  2 Tickets to the Oakland A's game:  $90.00.    One Root Beer Float:  $5.50.  Sharing The Day And the Root Beer Float With My Husband....Priceless!!  (Sounds Like A Commercial, Doesn't It?)
