Boston, Fenway Park

We were very thrilled to have tickets to the Friday night Yankees vs Red Sox game in Fenway Park.  We decided to drive to a Subway station and then take the train to Fenway.  It was fairly easy getting to the stadium.  We left early, hoping to see some of the pre-game festivities outside of Fenway.  The subway station was a few blocks from the stadium.  We were looking for some hole in the wall place to relax before the game, but didn't find what we were looking for and instead ended up at a pricey bar on Yawkee Way.  This turned out to be fine as this allowed us to have quick access into Fenway Park. This section of the road is always closed off once the gates open and part of the street is considered inside the stadium, so while inside the bar they scanned our tickets and we were in Fenway.

It was a beautiful evening with a perfectly comfortable temperature and lots of sunshine.  We made our way through the concourses, and then Kevin and our friend Jason stood in the bleachers hoping to catch a home run ball during batting practice, to no avail.  The stadium is in remarkable shape for its age.  We had seats out in the bleachers behind the bullpens in right field.  We were in the front row of the section, which at first seemed nice, but there was a never ending stream of people walking in front of us during the entire game.

It was a great game.  Boston was ahead most of the game, but the Yankees pulled ahead and won the game late.  There were several Yankee fans throughout the stands and the Red Sox fans would boo anytime they stood up or walked through the stands.  Fenway is a great place to watch a game since the Boston fans are so passionate and into the game.  At the end of the seventh inning they play 'Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond and then entire crowd sings along.

After the game we made our way to a subway station.  We had a somewhat difficult time finding the station as it was located across the freeway and only accessible by a couple of streets.  We sat at the station waiting for a train for several minutes - one of the worst post game mass transit experiences we have had, but we made it back to the car and then to the hotel, nonetheless.
